About The Project:

Following on from the work with did as part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival – Creative City project, we were delighted to receive further funding from Birmingham City Council (BCC) to continue this work until July of this year.  This meant we could still support and encourage all ages and abilities in the local community to be creative using a range of arts forms including pottery and painting.  The sessions have been held twice weekly – at Chatham Place Sheltered Scheme and in the Northfield Art Forum (NAF) shop in Grosvenor Shopping Centre, Northfield.  The benefits for those taking part have been so rewarding and a wide range of people of different ages, abilities and backgrounds have got involved.  As we so often say, whilst we are helping people to be creative the real strength and purpose of what we offer is about helping people to engage with others, to feel part of their community and to have fun.  Take a look at our gallery pictures and see if you agree.

Another bonus for us this year was that BCC offered some small grants to put on celebration events with arts and environmental themes.  We were able to put on a “Celebrating Together” day at Chatham place in September followed by a smaller session at Hawksley Community Centre.  Over 70 people of all ages and abilities came along and enjoyed being creative, dancing and singing to our local singer Stephen who entertained everyone so well.  We also had gardening activities where people could plant up spring bulbs and garden pots which was well received and lots of creativity for the gardeners.  Gardening has become another one of our favourite activities – following on from the community garden we created in Kings Norton courtesy of the Lottery Awards for All funding.  We have continued to bring local school children and older people together in the garden as well as at other activities and events such as the Celebratory Events this Autumn.  Finally, Clive Chandler brought along Punch and Judy and they kept everyone laughing so that we all went home with a smile and a song in our hearts!
